Distressed female overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) housed at the Migrant Workers and Other Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC) in Singapore received self-defense tips and relief packs from Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Alumni Association of Singapore during the group’s recent outreach mission to the Center. The activity is part of APO’s commitment to remain in the service of the OFW community in the city-state.

APO member Nico Ortega facilitated the conduct of the self-defense seminar via Zoom with complementary video presentation demonstrating self-defense and situational assessment. Meanwhile, APO members led by Mr. Phillip Caluag who were physically present at the MWOFRC explained a person’s right to self-defense, and provided life-saving self-defense tips. For enriched learning, APO members led the MWOFRC wards to demonstrate self-defense skills based on what they heard and seen.

APO members capped their visit with the distribution of grocery and other essential items to each of the MWOFRC wards. Labor Attaché Saul T. De Vries extended POLO’s appreciation to the group for sharing their time and resources with the distressed OFWs. The lessons they imparted and relief packs they distributed made the MWOFRC wards very happy, said Mr. De Vries.
