The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Singapore recently concluded its three-part webinar series on financial stewardship, which was conducted via Zoom video platform and streamed live on Facebook. The webinar series was aired every Saturday from October 17 to 31, 2020 with each session watched by at least 1,000 viewers from Singapore and other parts of the world. Resource Speaker Dr. Eunice Mareth Areola handled all the sessions that kickstarted with a discussion on financial mindset followed by a workshop on entrepreneurial mindset and capped with a lecture on business ideation.

POLO Singapore said that the webinar series was organized to empower overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in creating possibilities for them to achieve a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones. The sessions aimed to educate OFWs on the factors that contribute to having the right mindset to attain financial wellness and entrepreneurial success. Areola noted that these factors include, among others, personal health, values, passion, strengths, potentials, capabilities and family and community relations. She also presented the basic steps in setting up a business and gave important pointers on effective marketing tools and other business enhancing strategies. A list of possible business ideas were also shared by Areola.

Some of OFWs who joined in the Zoom discussion commented that the webinar provided “informative, inspiring and insightful thoughts and lessons”. Others participants observed that the sessions were different from the other financial literacy seminars they have attended. They said that the sessions were “eye-opener and enlightening” as the topics were discussed in the context of personal values and aspirations.

Areola is the founder of the Beyond Individual Good (BIG) Institute, a Philippine-based, globally affiliated innovation center for human capital development, design thinking and leadership training for educational institutions, SMEs and corporations. Zoom participants who completed the webinar series received a certificate of completion from POLO Singapore and BIG Institute.
